Shift Lead Engineer – M&E Operations

About the role

We are seeking an experienced M&E professional to take charge of building operations and critical engineering services at a high‑spec corporate headquarters in Central London. The Shift Lead Engineer will oversee the day‑to‑day performance of mechanical, electrical and public health systems, ensuring continuous uptime and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain all MEP systems on‑site, guaranteeing 100% operational uptime.
• Lead annual building power‑down and functional switching activities.
• Monitor alarms, respond to incidents and provide technical support for 24/7 operations.
• Develop and review SOPs, EOPs and participate in scenario drills.
• Supervise the shift engineering team, manage handovers and arrange cover for leave or training.
• Drive safety‑first culture, ensuring work orders comply with SFG20 and HSE policies.
• Oversee specialist subcontractors, auditing quality and safety compliance.
• Maintain CMMS/CAFM records, update tickets and meet contractual SLAs.
• Monitor spares, audit stock levels and coordinate procurement for critical repairs.

Required profile

• Level 3 electrical qualification (or equivalent).
• C&G 2391 (or equivalent) certification for electrical inspection and testing.
• Proven experience in M&E operations within high‑spec commercial estates.
• Ability to lead a shift team and manage subcontractor relationships.
• Strong understanding of safety standards, SFG20 and HSE regulations.

What we offer

• Salary £55,000 – £56,000 per year plus benefits
• Shift pattern: 5 on/5 off or 4 on/4 off, 7 am‑7 pm (days only)
