Shift Technician – Port Operations (Rotating Shifts)

About the role

This permanent, full‑time position is based at a busy port in Eastern Docks, South East England. You will work rotating shifts, providing hands‑on technical support to keep cruise‑terminal assets and cargo‑handling systems operating safely and reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out pre‑shift inspections of fenders, passenger boarding bridges and gangways.
• Prepare berths for cruise ship arrivals, positioning and checking boarding bridges and gangways.
• Perform reactive maintenance across the port, responding to breakdowns, equipment failures and urgent repairs.
• Support vessel arrival and departure by installing boarding bridges, crew gangways and water supply connections.
• Maintain mobile plant and container‑handling equipment, troubleshooting motors, variable‑speed controllers and mechanical systems.
• Adhere to strict safety procedures when working with heavy machinery, heights and moving equipment.
• Carry out facilities maintenance including lighting, water systems and public services.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 or ONC in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Ability to work at heights and in industrial environments.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience with fault‑finding, reactive repairs and modern maintenance strategies such as RCM, CBM and TPM.
