Sign Language Support Assistant – Primary School (Sutton)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Sign Language Support Assistant to work in a vibrant primary school on the borders of Croydon and Sutton. This full‑time position runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 am‑4:00 pm, and offers the chance to make a direct impact on the learning experience of deaf and hard‑of‑hearing pupils.

Key responsibilities

• Provide sign‑language interpretation and communication support for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing pupils.
• Assist teachers in delivering lessons, ensuring pupils have full access to the curriculum.
• Collaborate with classroom staff and senior leadership to create inclusive, well‑resourced learning environments.
• Adapt support strategies to meet the individual needs of each pupil.

Required profile

• Qualified in British Sign Language (BSL) or Makaton, or demonstrable proficiency.
• Previous experience supporting deaf or hard‑of‑hearing children, preferably in a primary setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility, positivity and a proactive, professional attitude.
