Site Maintenance Service Operative

About the role

As a Site Maintenance Service Operative you will ensure the safe, compliant and efficient operation of inert and closed landfill sites across East Anglia. You will conduct regular inspections, oversee contractor activities and carry out maintenance and repair work in line with environmental, health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily, weekly and monthly site inspections following FCC IMS procedures and O&M agreements.
• Support the Site Manager and Supervisor to maintain full compliance with environmental permits and contractual requirements.
• Identify, report and escalate remedial and statutory works using agreed spend‑control procedures.
• Carry out in‑house repairs to site infrastructure and equipment where appropriate.
• Inspect and monitor leachate and landfill gas systems, reporting any issues.
• Manage and control contractors on site, including inductions and documentation.
• Maintain site security systems and infrastructure.
• Provide cover across multiple sites and travel as required (approx. 20,000 miles per year).

Required profile

• Ability to work alone and follow Lone Working Procedures.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Basic understanding of Health & Safety at Work legislation.
• Flexibility to travel during the working day.

Required skills

• Understanding of leachate, landfill gas and environmental control systems.
• IT proficiency – email, Microsoft Word and smartphone use.
