Site Manager (Caretaker) – Full‑time, Bolton

About the role

We are looking for a proactive Site Manager (Caretaker) to ensure the school environment in Bolton is safe, clean and fully operational. The role involves overseeing daily maintenance, health and safety compliance and the security of the premises, supporting staff, pupils and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and DIY projects across the building and grounds.
• Supervise cleaning staff and manage external contractors, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
• Maintain tools, equipment, stock levels and prepare rooms for events.
• Lead on health‑and‑safety matters, including COSHH, fire safety, asbestos and Legionella compliance, and keep safety logs up to date.
• Open and secure the site each day, monitor CCTV and alarm systems, and act as key holder in emergencies.
• Manage waste, drainage and seasonal safety tasks such as snow and ice clearance.
• Handle deliveries, porterage duties and maintain first‑aid supplies.
• Support safeguarding, equality and data‑protection standards.

Required profile

• Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills.
• Practical maintenance experience and knowledge of health‑and‑safety requirements.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• Enhanced DBS check and Update Service membership.

Required skills

• ICT skills for email and basic reporting.
• Trade qualification or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
