Site Manager – Primary School (Hertford)

About the role

We are seeking a proactive and organised Site Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day operation of a primary school premises in Hertfordshire. You will ensure a safe, secure and well‑maintained environment for pupils, staff, visitors and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Open and secure the school site each day as the designated key holder.
• Carry out routine health‑and‑safety, fire‑safety and maintenance inspections.
• Manage cleaning contractors and maintain designated areas of the school.
• Monitor heating, lighting, security, fire alarm and other building systems.
• Liaise with contractors, ensuring work is completed safely and to standard.
• Undertake minor repairs and arrange larger maintenance works.
• Maintain accurate premises records using the school’s facilities management system.
• Order premises supplies and equipment within agreed budgets.
• Work closely with school leaders to resolve premises‑related issues.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH and statutory requirements.

Required profile

• Experience in premises, facilities or site management.
• Good practical maintenance and DIY abilities.
• Understanding of health & safety, fire safety and COSHH regulations.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently.
• Strong organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience supervising contractors or cleaning teams (desirable).
• Proactive, flexible and professional approach.
