Site Support Assistant (Caretaker) – Full Time

About the role

We are looking for a practical, reliable and proactive Site Support Assistant to join the premises team of a busy school in Reading. The role is hands‑on and essential for keeping the campus safe, clean and ready for learning.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain security of buildings and grounds, especially outside normal school hours.
• Carry out general porterage duties across the site.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks such as heating, lighting, plumbing, security‑system upkeep, painting and decorating.
• Support cleaning activities to uphold high hygiene standards.
• Set up rooms and facilities for lessons, events and external hires.
• Maintain school minibuses – refuel, clean and ensure roadworthiness.
• Store equipment, furniture and materials safely.
• Follow health‑and‑safety procedures and address identified hazards.
• Assist with grounds upkeep to keep outdoor areas tidy and safe.
• Participate in training and professional‑development activities as required.

Required profile

• Experience in practical maintenance, caretaking, site or facilities management.
• Proactive, hardworking and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good understanding of health‑and‑safety requirements.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of young people.
