Site Support Assistant (Caretaker) – Full‑time

About the role

We are looking for a practical, reliable and proactive Site Support Assistant to join the premises team of a school in Shinfield. The role ensures the environment is safe, secure and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain security of buildings and grounds, especially outside normal school hours.
• Carry out general porterage duties across the site.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks such as heating, lighting, plumbing, security‑system upkeep, painting and decorating.
• Support cleaning activities to keep the school to high standards.
• Set up rooms and facilities for school events and external hires.
• Maintain school minibuses, including refuelling and cleaning.
• Store equipment, furniture and materials safely.
• Follow health‑and‑safety procedures and address identified hazards.
• Assist with grounds upkeep to ensure safety and tidiness.
• Support wider operational needs as directed by the Site Manager.

Required profile

• Experience in practical maintenance, caretaking, site or facilities management.
• Proactive, hardworking and able to use own initiative.
• Good understanding of health‑and‑safety requirements.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
