Smallworld Consultant – Geospatial Solutions for Utilities

About the role

We are seeking a Functional Smallworld Consultant to lead the delivery of complex geospatial solutions for major electrical utility projects across the UK and Europe. You will act as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring that Smallworld implementations meet operational and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate requirements‑gathering workshops with business users, technical teams and project stakeholders.
• Analyse functional and technical needs for electricity distribution and transmission projects and translate them into user stories, process maps and solution specifications.
• Assess existing Smallworld processes, applications and data structures, recommending improvements.
• Collaborate with developers, architects, testers and project managers to deliver solutions that align with business goals.
• Support data migration, validation, and quality activities, as well as integrations with asset, work and outage management systems.
• Produce functional design documents, business requirements, use cases and acceptance criteria.
• Develop test scenarios, assist with system, integration and user‑acceptance testing, and support defect triage.
• Create user guides, training materials and deliver knowledge‑transfer sessions.
• Identify project risks, dependencies and gaps, contributing to planning and reporting.

Required profile

• Strong experience in functional consultancy, business analysis or solution delivery for GIS projects.
• Proven track record working on electrical utility or similar large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication skills to liaise with both technical teams and senior business stakeholders.
