Social Worker – MAP Service (Surrey Council)

About the role

Our client Surrey Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join the MAP (Multi‑Agency Partnership) Service. You will work directly with families, partner organisations and statutory bodies to protect children and support families in need.

Key responsibilities

• Triaging referrals to determine whether they meet the statutory threshold for a child protection assessment.
• Conducting comprehensive assessments of families, identifying strengths, risks and developing SMART plans to reduce harm.
• Collaborating with partners, attending child‑in‑need and core‑group meetings, and monitoring progress.
• Carrying out child protection investigations when there are grounds to believe a child is at risk of significant harm.
• Initiating legal actions (Section 20 agreements or court proceedings) when necessary to safeguard children.
• Working with commissioning, fostering and adoption teams to secure high‑quality, stable placements for children.
• Maintaining accurate case records, assessments and plans in line with organisational policy.
• Building effective relationships with legal services and local family courts.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with experience in child protection and family assessment.
• Strong knowledge of statutory thresholds, safeguarding legislation and local authority procedures.
• Ability to engage families, work collaboratively across agencies and manage complex caseloads.
