Social Worker – Support & Protect Team (Hybrid)

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Social Worker to join the Support and Protect Team in Carlisle. This hybrid role (3 days on‑site, 2 days remote) offers a frontline position delivering high‑quality support and protection for children and families in Cumbria.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989, including Child & Family Assessments and Section 47 investigations.
- Manage a complex caseload of Children in Need, Child Protection plans and public law cases.
- Develop and implement outcome‑focused care and safety plans, ensuring the child’s voice is central.
- Prepare reports for Child Protection Conferences, Core Group meetings and represent the authority in court.
- Collaborate with multi‑agency partners such as schools, police, health services and other statutory bodies.
Required profile
- Degree in Social Work (BA, BSc, MA or MSc) and registration with Social Work England.
- At least 3 years post‑qualifying experience in statutory child protection or safeguarding.
- Enhanced DBS (Child Barred List) and a valid driving licence with access to a vehicle.
Required skills
- Strong report‑writing ability.
- Effective risk management under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging hard‑to‑reach families.
