Social Worker – UASC Team (Liverpool)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Unaccompanied Asylum‑Seeking Children (UASC) team supporting looked‑after young people in Liverpool. The role involves managing a caseload of UASC, developing pathway plans and ensuring safe, culturally appropriate placements while navigating complex immigration processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of UASC under Section 20/31 of the Children Act, creating and reviewing comprehensive pathway plans up to age 25.
• Source, assess and monitor placements that meet cultural, linguistic and religious needs, including specialist foster care and semi‑independent accommodation.
• Conduct legally robust age assessments in line with Merton guidelines and coordinate with Home Office and legal teams.
• Support young people through the asylum process, attend immigration interviews as the Responsible Adult, and safeguard documentation such as BRPs and ARCs.
• Identify and refer suspected modern slavery or trafficking cases via the National Referral Mechanism and develop safety plans.
• Facilitate rapid enrolment in education, ESOL courses, and ensure registration with GP and dental services.
• Arrange specialist therapeutic support (CAMHS, trauma charities) and utilise professional interpreters for all assessments.

Required profile

• Social Work degree and registration with Social Work England.
• Clear DBS check.
• Minimum three years permanent experience working with looked‑after children or UASC.
• Strong knowledge of the Children Act, immigration law and the National Referral Mechanism.
