Social Worker – Young People's Safeguarding

About the role

Our client, Peterborough City Council, is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join the Young People's Safeguarding team. The role involves handling complex cases, assessing risk, and delivering tailored interventions for children, young people and families.

Key responsibilities

• Build effective relationships with children, young people and families to identify needs and promote participation in decisions.
• Conduct statutory assessments, evaluate risk and produce clear, concise records.
• Plan, implement and review interventions in line with council policies and regulatory standards.
• Manage a caseload independently while seeking support when required.
• Use supervision proactively to reflect on practice and support professional development.
• Collaborate with partner organisations and neighbouring authorities when it benefits service users.

Required profile

• Minimum one year post‑qualification experience in a social work role.
• Strong understanding of current safeguarding legislation and council procedures.
• Ability to work autonomously, make sound judgments on risk and maintain confidentiality.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Required skills

• Knowledge of statutory and regulatory frameworks for child and youth safeguarding.
• Competence in producing accurate case records and reports.
• Effective risk assessment and decision‑making abilities.
