Software Engineer, Backend & Platform

About the role

Aion is an enterprise AI platform that builds, fine-tunes and deploys AI at scale, with teams across the US, UK and India. It is looking for a general-purpose software engineer with 2-4 years of experience in backend systems and platform infrastructure, who can work on both the Compute Platform (multi-cloud orchestration, resource management) and the Inference Platform (model serving, autoscaling) under the guidance of senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain platform services for compute and inference, including multi-cloud orchestration, resource scheduling, model deployment pipelines and autoscaling
• Write production-grade code with proper abstractions, design patterns and comprehensive test coverage, and contribute to low-level design of APIs, database schemas and data models
• Develop RESTful APIs and gRPC services, and design database schemas for platform state, resource metadata, billing and observability
• Work with Kafka, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL and Redis, and build event-driven architectures for asynchronous processing and job scheduling
• Set up monitoring, logging and alerting, and debug production issues and incidents
• Write unit, integration and end-to-end tests, take part in code reviews, refactor code and document design decisions and runbooks

Required profile

• 2-4 years of experience in backend engineering, platform development or distributed systems
• Strong proficiency in Golang, with idiomatic code, error handling, concurrency patterns and testing
• Product-minded, able to wear several hats and collaborate with senior engineers
• Preferred: high ownership, strategic thinking, excellent communication and mentoring skills, and comfort in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

• Golang, RESTful APIs, microservices and API design
• Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and storage systems (S3, distributed file systems)
• Message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS) and event-driven architectures
• Containerization (Docker) and basic Kubernetes concepts
• Git, CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks
• Cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) or observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana) are a plus
