Software Engineer Consultant

About the role

We are hiring a Software Engineer Consultant for a fast‑growing UK technology consultancy that works on high‑impact projects for government agencies. The role offers real ownership of technical delivery, allowing you to design and build software that directly supports national security, cyber security and telecom initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with clients to capture software engineering requirements and objectives.
• Design, develop, test and implement high‑quality, secure software solutions following industry best practices.
• Write clean, efficient, well‑documented code and ensure quality through testing, debugging and peer reviews.
• Stay current with emerging tools, languages and technologies and share knowledge with the team.
• Work with project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Support client engagements, including pitches and presentations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional experience as a software engineer, preferably in a consultancy or industry setting.
• Experience working in Unix/Linux environments.
• Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development methodologies.

Required skills

• Programming languages: Python, Java, C++, Rust, Go.
• Testing frameworks and tools: pytest, OpenAPI.
• Database systems and query languages (e.g., SQL).
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud.
• DevOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker) and orchestration.
• Agile and Scrum methodologies.
