Software Engineer III – Java & JavaScript

About the role

Do you enjoy designing and developing scalable, high‑performance applications using Java and JavaScript? You will join the Identity & Access Management team, which owns the authentication and authorisation infrastructure underpinning Elsevier’s global product suite. The team builds and operates a highly available identity platform that integrates with multiple identity providers, entitlement services, and downstream APIs, running on AWS ECS and EKS.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with technical personnel to finalize requirements.
• Write and review detailed specifications for moderately complex system components.
• Collaborate with development team members to translate product requirements into software designs.
• Implement development processes, coding best practices, and conduct code reviews.
• Operate in Agile, Waterfall or hybrid environments while engaging key stakeholders.
• Use GitHub workflows, pull requests, and issue tracking for distributed collaboration.
• Resolve technical issues and keep abreast of new technology developments.
• Complete bug fixes and maintain code quality.

Required profile

• Proficiency with data manipulation languages and understanding of data modelling principles.
• Ability to work with complex data models and data storage subsystems.
• Experience with Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, Node.js, React, XML, SQL, Windows and UNIX.
• Experience with identity providers such as Keycloak or Auth0, including realm configuration and OIDC client setup.
• Familiarity with industry best practices such as code coverage and test‑driven development.
• Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
• Ability to work well with internal and external technology resources.
