Software Engineer

About the role

Opencast is looking for a Software Engineer who values craftsmanship, clean design and thoughtful problem‑solving over sheer speed. You will work in a consultancy environment, collaborating closely with clients and teammates to deliver high‑quality software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software using test‑driven development (TDD) and pair programming.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into robust solutions.
• Travel regularly to client sites across the UK for on‑site work and relationship building.
• Apply agile and eXtreme programming practices to continuously improve code quality and delivery processes.
• Mentor and support team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Required profile

• Active Security Check (SC) clearance or willingness to undergo the clearance process.
• Eligibility for UK security vetting (typically UK citizenship and five years continuous residence).
• Strong preference for in‑person collaboration and relationship building.
• Commitment to delivering simple, robust, and maintainable software.
