Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join Compare the Market’s technology team in London. You will help build and maintain high‑performing, scalable services that simplify financial decision‑making for millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers and leadership to design solutions, balancing technical and operational considerations.
• Work with cross‑functional engineering teams to improve efficiency and eliminate bottlenecks.
• Own key parts of the development lifecycle – from design and implementation to testing, security and maintenance.
• Embed testing and security standards into the team’s software output.
• Participate in engineering community of practice, sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Engage in software development methodologies such as pair programming, code reviews and continuous delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience building scalable, highly available backend services.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and ability to organise a team around challenges.
• Experience working with agile and lean methodologies.
• Active learner eager to grow technically and professionally.

Required skills

• Node.js (backend focus)
• JavaScript / TypeScript
• GraphQL
• Design and maintenance of build, test and deployment pipelines
• Knowledge of security engineering practices
