Software Engineering Director

About the role

FanDuel is seeking a hands‑on Software Engineering Director to lead multiple teams within its Customer Product Engineering domain. You will own the technical vision and delivery of critical fan‑facing systems such as payments, onboarding, geolocation, responsible gaming and loyalty experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Lead managers and senior engineers across several product areas, setting clear technical direction and ensuring delivery against customer‑centric outcomes.
• Define and enforce standards for availability, operational excellence, and event‑driven peak‑load readiness, including capacity planning and fail‑over strategies.
• Reduce third‑party blast radius through redundancy, graceful degradation and clear fallback mechanisms for payment, KAI and geolocation providers.
• Partner with Product, Compliance, Risk, Finance and Customer Operations to shape road‑maps, embed regulatory requirements and drive AI usage across the software lifecycle.
• Grow engineering talent through hiring, performance management and leadership development while maintaining on‑call and incident‑response responsibilities.

Required profile

• 10+ years in software development with at least 5 years leading engineering teams, including experience managing other managers.
• Proven track record delivering high‑volume transactional systems in regulated domains such as payments, financial services or identity.
• Comfortable operating in heavily regulated environments where auditability, evidence and data boundaries are essential.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in modern back‑end languages, especially Java.
• Strong experience with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS), containers and orchestration.
• Hands‑on knowledge of observability, KPIs and data‑driven engineering decisions.
• Understanding of AI‑assisted software development and its appropriate use in regulated settings.
