Software Engineering Manager

Capital One UK is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for its London office. The role combines people leadership with technical guidance to drive high‑quality software delivery in a regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coach, mentor and nurture engineers, fostering career growth and a positive impact on the business.
• Provide technical leadership, stay close to the team’s work, set high engineering standards and influence architectural decisions.
• Communicate the purpose behind work, shape team culture and ensure understanding of business context.
• Own delivery processes, partner with Product Owner and Change Delivery Lead to shape road‑maps and deliver high‑quality software frequently.
• Manage one or more business applications, keeping them compliant and well‑maintained.
• Represent business interests to the engineering team and contribute to improving the broader environment.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams and handling conflict constructively.
• Background as an experienced software engineer comfortable with technology, architecture and trade‑offs.
• Experience with Java, Spring and AWS backend stack.
• Advocate of tight feedback loops, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and frequent releases.
• Strong ownership, excellent communication and a bias for action.
