Solicitor – Wills & Probate Department

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Solicitor or qualified CILEX lawyer to join the busy Wills & Probate Department in Bolton. The successful candidate will manage a full private‑client caseload, providing compassionate advice to elderly, vulnerable and bereaved clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage private‑client matters from instruction through to completion.
• Advise clients on wills, lasting powers of attorney, probate, estate administration and court of protection matters.
• Draft wills, LPAs and other private‑client documentation.
• Prepare and submit Probate Registry applications.
• Supervise and mentor junior team members.
• Attend client appointments in the office, care homes and clients’ homes.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure effective file management.
• Produce high‑quality correspondence and legal documents within agreed timescales.
• Contribute to the department’s development and pursue continuous professional learning.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor or CILEX status.
• Minimum of 3 years post‑qualification experience (or equivalent).
• Strong technical knowledge of wills, LPAs, probate and estate administration.
• Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act.
• Experience with testamentary trusts and broader estate‑planning matters.
• STEP qualification or progress towards STEP is advantageous but not essential.
• Experience supervising or mentoring colleagues.

• Competitive salary £35,000‑£55,000 per year
