Solutions Architect – IoT & Digital Systems

About the role

We are looking for a Solutions Architect to lead the design of IoT and digital systems for smart building projects in Bristol. The role combines high‑level architecture with detailed solution design, ensuring seamless integration across operational and enterprise technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Produce clear High‑Level Designs (HLDs) and detailed Low‑Level Designs (LLDs) for new projects.
• Lead solution discovery, early‑stage architecture definition and translate business and technical requirements into actionable designs.
• Support impact assessments, architectural governance and Technical Design Authority submissions.
• Design solutions covering IoT, access control, building management systems (BMS), BIM, asset data and enterprise IT infrastructure.
• Define integration approaches, API strategies and data flows across digital platforms and operational technologies.
• Collaborate with internal teams and third‑party suppliers, facilitate technical reviews and evaluate architectural options.

Required profile

• Broad understanding of IoT, enterprise data, BIM, system integration, infrastructure, APIs and security.
• Proven experience creating HLDs and LLDs for complex or high‑risk solutions.
• Ability to balance hands‑on solution design with architecture governance and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly.

Required skills

• IoT and smart‑building technologies (access control, BMS).
• Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Common Data Environments.
• API design, systems integration and common integration patterns.
• Cloud platforms – AWS and/or Microsoft Azure (desirable).
• Architecture modelling tools such as UML, BPMN or ArchiMate (desirable).
