Sous Chef – Care Home

About the role

Join Avery Healthcare Group as a Sous Chef at our Braintree Mews Care Home. You will work alongside the Head Chef to deliver nutritious, appealing meals that support the health and wellbeing of our residents.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in managing the kitchen team and daily operations.
• Prepare modified diets in line with IDDSI guidance, ensuring visual appeal and nutritional balance.
• Supervise and train junior kitchen staff on basic food preparation techniques.
• Maintain the highest standards of food hygiene and safety, adhering to the Avery Food Safety Management System.
• Control food costs and work within the allocated budget.

Required profile

• Hold a City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, NVQ, or equivalent catering qualification.
• Minimum of 1 year of catering experience, preferably in a care or residential setting.
• Demonstrate compassion, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to short‑notice changes.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality culinary service to vulnerable residents.

Required skills

• Food safety knowledge and safe food handling practices.
