Sous Chef – Care Home Kitchen

About the role

Join Avery Healthcare as a Sous Chef at Barnet Grange Care Home, supporting the Head Chef in delivering nutritious, high‑quality meals for residents. You will help create a welcoming dining experience while ensuring food safety and dietary standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in managing a culinary team that prepares balanced meals within budget.
• Prepare modified diets that are appealing and comply with IDDSI guidelines.
• Supervise and direct culinary staff, providing hands‑on instruction for simple food preparation tasks.
• Maintain the highest hygiene standards by applying safe food‑handling principles.
• Support the team in understanding and following Avery’s Food Safety Management System.

Required profile

• Hold a relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 1 year catering experience, preferably in a care‑home or similar setting.
• Demonstrate compassion, flexibility and the ability to adapt to short‑notice responsibilities.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality culinary services for residents.
