Sous Chef – Live In

About the role

We are looking for a passionate Live‑In Sous Chef to join The Swan, a historic inn in Grasmere, Lake District. Working closely with the Head Chef, you will help maintain the high culinary standards that our guests expect while contributing to menu creation and overall kitchen performance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations and take charge in their absence.
• Lead and motivate a talented kitchen team to deliver consistent, high‑quality dishes.
• Develop and cost menu items, ensuring profitability and creativity.
• Manage stock control, place orders with nominated suppliers, and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Oversee kitchen cleanliness and hygiene standards at all times.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a fast‑paced kitchen environment.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with front‑of‑house and management teams.
• Commitment to delivering excellent guest experiences.
