Spacecraft Propulsion Engineer Internship – 12 months

About the role

Join Airbus Defence and Space’s Propulsion team in Stevenage and contribute to cutting‑edge chemical propulsion projects, including the Rosalind Franklin Propulsion Landing System for Mars missions. This 12‑month placement offers hands‑on experience in design, analysis and testing of spacecraft propulsion systems.

Key responsibilities

• Generate propulsion system specifications and perform design, performance and analysis for chemical propulsion systems.
• Prepare spacecraft test plans, verification analyses (including FMECA) and assess test results.
• Undertake structural and pipework analysis of propulsion tanks and support concurrent engineering with system‑level interfaces.
• Produce technical documentation and deliver presentations at design reviews and R&D meetings.
• Support flight‑critical operations, reviewing telemetry and tele‑commanding at customer ground stations.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate Science or Engineering degree for the full placement duration.
• Demonstrated leadership experience.
• Passion for engineering and space exploration.
• Work experience is a plus but not essential.

• Salary of £24,500 per year.
