Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Full‑time, Croydon

About the role

We are seeking a patient and proactive Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4‑19 in a specialist setting in Croydon. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to help pupils access learning, achieve their EHCP outcomes and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with autism, severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties.
• Assist teachers in delivering the curriculum and implementing behaviour and communication strategies.
• Promote independence, positive behaviour and life‑skills development.
• Collaborate with therapists and staff to monitor progress and report observations.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive and structured learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant.
• Experience supporting pupils with autism, SLD, PMLD or other complex needs.
• Confidence in managing communication, behaviour and learning challenges.
• Ability to commute easily to Croydon.
• Patient, proactive and team‑oriented attitude.

Required skills

• Knowledge of EHCP outcomes and special educational needs frameworks.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
