Special Needs Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEN School

About the role
We are looking for a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary SEN school in Eccles. You will support pupils aged 11‑16, primarily those with Autism Spectrum Condition, helping them access learning and develop confidence. This full‑time position starts in September and offers a supportive environment for professional growth.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one support for pupils with autism and other special educational needs.
- Assist small groups with academic, social and emotional development.
- Support teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons.
- Promote positive behaviour and foster student independence.
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
- Help students manage communication, sensory, and emotional regulation needs.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, especially autism.
- Patient, empathetic and resilient attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships and engage students effectively.
- Genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
- Relevant qualifications or experience in education, care, youth work or support work (desirable but not essential).
