Special Needs Teaching Assistant – SEND Support (South Birmingham)

About the role
We are looking for a flexible and committed Specialist Teaching Support practitioner to work in a SEND setting in South Birmingham. The role provides 1:1 support to pupils with autism across primary and secondary ages, rotating among students to promote independence.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver tailored 1:1 support to autistic pupils in both primary and secondary classrooms.
- Assist students during lessons and structured breakout sessions.
- Support personalised learning tasks linked to EHCP targets.
- Help pupils manage emotional regulation, communication and daily transitions.
- Monitor progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and SENCo.
- Promote confidence, engagement and positive social interaction.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people with autism.
- Comfortable supporting both primary and secondary‑aged pupils.
- Adaptable, patient and resilient in a SEND environment.
- Ability to build quick relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
- Valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential).
- Reliable and committed to a long‑term placement.
