About the role
West London College is seeking a dedicated Specialist Mental Health and Wellbeing Mentor to join its Safeguarding department at the Hammersmith campus. The role focuses on enhancing mental health provision for students and staff within a Further Education setting, delivering early‑intervention, targeted support and preventative strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of learners requiring targeted mental health intervention.
- Deliver one‑to‑one and group wellbeing sessions using evidence‑based approaches.
- Conduct holistic mental health and risk assessments, including suicide ideation and self‑harm.
- Develop, implement and review individual wellbeing support plans in collaboration with students and staff.
- Provide crisis intervention, de‑escalation and safeguarding support.
- Deliver mental health awareness training and CPD for teaching and support staff.
- Liaise with external services such as CAMHS, NHS, GPs and social care.
- Support multi‑disciplinary teams across curriculum, SEND, pastoral services and safeguarding.
Required profile
- Experienced mental health practitioner with a strong understanding of adolescent and young adult mental health.
- Knowledge of the complex needs of diverse FE learners, including SEND.
- Excellent communication, leadership and resilience.
- Ability to influence and embed a culture of wellbeing across the college.
Required skills
- Proficiency in evidence‑based therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT‑informed, solution‑focused, trauma‑informed).
- Risk assessment and crisis de‑escalation techniques.
- Safeguarding procedures and liaison with external mental health services.
- Design and delivery of staff training and CPD sessions.
