Specialist Pharmacist – Aseptic Dispensing & Clinical Services

About the role

Join the Pharmacy & Medicines team at NHS Lothian to deliver high‑quality clinical pharmacy services across surgical specialties and the aseptic unit at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. The role combines specialist clinical pharmacy work in colorectal and urology surgery with deputising responsibilities for the aseptic services manager.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist clinical pharmacy support to colorectal and urology surgical areas, influencing prescribing and optimising patient care.
• Deputise for the aseptic services manager, overseeing the preparation of parenteral nutrition, outpatient chemotherapy, clinical trial materials, CIVAS and ATMP products.
• Contribute equally to the development and delivery of both clinical pharmacy and aseptic service provisions.
• Develop expertise in service development, staff management, training and education, working towards Royal College of Pharmacy credentialling.

Required profile

• Master of Pharmacy degree (or equivalent) and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Completed post‑registration training mapped to the RPS Post‑Registration Foundation Pharmacist Curriculum.
• Post‑registration hospital pharmacy experience with a focus on aseptic techniques.
• Strong patient‑focused approach, excellent communication, and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Aseptic dispensing and product release.
• Preparation of parenteral nutrition formulations.
• Outpatient chemotherapy compounding.
• Handling of clinical trial, CIVAS and ATMP products.
• Use of pharmaceutical quality systems in an aseptic environment.
