About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Specialist PMLD Teacher to join a specialist SEND school in Waltham Forest, East London. The role covers Key Stages 1 to 4 and supports pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex physical disabilities, and medical needs. You will deliver highly individualized, sensory‑based learning experiences in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons tailored to each pupil’s needs.
- Create a safe, inclusive learning environment that promotes communication, engagement and independence.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, families and external professionals.
- Lead a multidisciplinary approach to address educational, physical, communication and personal care requirements.
- Monitor and assess progress against EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets.
- Utilise a range of communication approaches, including AAC, sensory strategies and intensive interaction.
- Contribute to annual reviews, reports and professional meetings.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Proven experience teaching pupils with PMLD, SLD or complex SEND needs.
- Strong understanding of sensory curriculum approaches and personalised learning.
- Experience working within a specialist SEND setting.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, behaviour support and supporting pupils with complex medical and physical needs.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Required skills
- Use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
- Implementation of sensory‑based teaching strategies.
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary support.
