Specialist SEN Mentor – Year 13 Support (Part‑time)

About the role
We are seeking a Specialist SEN Mentor to provide one‑to‑one, relationship‑based support for a Year 13 student with an EHCP at a college in Uxbridge. The placement runs for 37 weeks during term time, working one hour per day, three to four days a week.
Key responsibilities
- Accompany the student to sessions, help them settle and stay engaged in their plumbing course.
- Support the learner with maths, English and attendance targets, aiming for >80 % attendance and a course pass.
- Model calm communication, assist with social cue interpretation, transitions and emotional regulation.
- Develop alternative ways for the student to record learning when writing is a barrier.
- Guide safer decision‑making in social situations and reduce negative peer influence.
Required profile
- Experience working with young people who have Autism, ADHD, ODD, SEMH or Emotionally Based School Avoidance.
- Resilient, patient and able to maintain consistency when behaviour is unpredictable.
- Confident delivering practical, relationship‑focused support in a college environment.
Required skills
- Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and related behavioural strategies.
- Ability to adapt learning materials and use visual or alternative recording methods.
