Specialist SENCO for SEND School in Gloucester

About the role

The school is a well‑resourced specialist SEND setting in Gloucester, dedicated to supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs. As the SENCO you will join the senior leadership team to ensure that every child receives high‑quality, personalised education and support.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the whole school.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and review of EHCPs and personalised learning plans.
  • Support teachers and teaching assistants with effective SEND strategies and interventions.
  • Monitor pupil progress, evaluate the impact of provision and adjust approaches as needed.
  • Work closely with parents, carers and external agencies to maintain high standards of provision.
  • Ensure statutory SEND responsibilities are met and contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Participate in whole‑school improvement and leadership projects.

Required profile

  • Qualified teacher with previous SENCO experience, or an experienced SEND practitioner willing to complete the National Award for SEN Coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCP processes and inclusive practice.
  • Proven leadership ability and experience of working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams.

Required skills

  • Knowledge of EHCP management and review cycles.
  • Understanding of SEND statutory duties and best‑practice frameworks.
  • Ability to develop and deliver staff training on SEND topics.
