Specialist Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support) – Primary School

About the role

A welcoming primary school in Ellesmere Port is seeking an experienced Specialist Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with complex additional needs. The role runs from September to December 2026, afternoons only, and offers a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a challenging educational setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout each afternoon session.
• Build a trusting, positive relationship with the pupil.
• Implement strategies tailored for a PDA profile, supporting emotional regulation and reducing anxiety‑driven behaviours.
• Liaise closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Adapt activities and expectations to meet the child's individual needs while preserving dignity and self‑esteem.
• Complete observations, behaviour records and support transitions.
• Respond calmly to challenging situations and de‑escalate when required.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with children diagnosed with ASD, ADHD and PDA.
• Strong understanding of trauma‑informed and neurodiversity‑affirming approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to support pupils displaying highly challenging behaviours.
• Patience, resilience and the capacity to remain calm under pressure.
• Ability to work independently while following guidance from the school and SEND team.
• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Knowledge of effective behaviour support strategies.
• Experience in specialist, SEND or alternative provision settings.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
