Speech and Language Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are partnering with a warm, inclusive school in Chelmsford that is looking for a dedicated Speech and Language Teaching Assistant. You will help children develop confidence, communication skills, and independence in a supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with speech and language activities and interventions.
• Assist children with autism, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, sensory processing difficulties, and other additional needs.
• Help build confidence, regulate emotions, and encourage positive classroom engagement.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to tailor learning approaches.

Required profile

• Patient, nurturing, and positive attitude.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with pupils and staff.
• Adaptable and calm under pressure.
• Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
• Understanding that every child learns differently.

Required skills

• Experience or knowledge of speech and language development.
• Familiarity with autism, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, or sensory processing challenges.
