Staff Data Scientist – London

About the role

Chainalysis is tackling the toughest technical challenges in blockchain analytics and is looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join its Research and Intelligence organisation in London. You will work in cross‑functional squads within the Data Science team, leading analytical, statistical and machine‑learning projects across UTXO and EVM blockchains.

Key responsibilities

• Own and prioritize multiple concurrent production data‑science projects, turning broad problem statements into actionable work and delivering measurable outcomes.
• Design, develop and validate novel analytical methods, statistical models, behavioural heuristics and algorithms to attribute on‑chain activity and generate customer‑relevant insights.
• Stay current on advances in data science and blockchain analysis, evaluating techniques such as graph computation, statistical modelling and machine learning on large‑scale datasets.
• Identify and resolve inefficiencies in code, methodology and workflows, make architectural decisions and manage technical debt.
• Mentor team members, support onboarding, contribute to technical hiring and share knowledge through documentation and presentations.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in statistics, machine learning, computer science, physics, mathematics or a related quantitative discipline, demonstrated through advanced industry or research work.
• Expert‑level proficiency in Python and SQL with a track record of writing clean, testable, production‑quality code.
• Experience applying advanced analytical techniques (e.g., graph algorithms, ML, statistical inference) to large, messy datasets.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar technical domains quickly; blockchain experience is a plus but not required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex methodology to diverse audiences.
