Staff Nurse – Blood Collection

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Staff Nurse to join our Donor Services Blood Collection Team. You will work across the West of Scotland delivering whole blood, platelet and plasma collection sessions, ensuring donors feel welcomed, comfortable and safe.

Key responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture and medical selection during whole blood donation sessions.
• Assess donor suitability for apheresis (platelet and plasma) including venous access and predicted platelet yield.
• Set‑up and assist with community donation sessions, handling equipment cages or trolleys up to 60 kg safely with a colleague.
• Travel to various collection sites and work flexible hours, including Sundays and late evenings.
• Maintain accurate records and support quality‑assurance processes.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.
• Willingness to undergo a PVG Scheme check and provide any required overseas criminal record checks.
