Step 2 Referee Coach – Consultant

About the role

The FA is seeking a dynamic Step 2 Referee Coach on a consultancy basis to help elevate referee standards, support development pathways and contribute to a robust recruitment process across the football season.

Key responsibilities

• Attend Step 2 fixtures to observe, analyse and produce objective performance reports for Referees and Assistant Referees.
• Support officials’ technical, tactical, psychological and behavioural development.
• Contribute to succession planning, promotion decisions and long‑term referee development strategy.
• Assist with training events, workshops and continuing professional development activities.
• Comply with all health, safety and organisational policies, including DBS checks where required.

Required profile

• Extensive officiating experience at Level 2 or above (or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of the Laws of the Game and referee development pathways.
• Proven ability to deliver clear, balanced and constructive feedback.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in referee development.
• Willingness to travel to matches during evenings and weekends.
