Stores & Logistics Operative

About the role

We are looking for a Stores & Logistics Operative to join an established engineering and manufacturing business in Alton. The role ensures the efficient receipt, storage, control and dispatch of materials and products, supporting day‑to‑day operations.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and inspect incoming deliveries, checking quantity, quality and any damage against purchase orders.
• Record goods received in the stock control system and store materials safely in designated locations.
• Maintain organised stores, conduct regular stock checks and cycle counts, and update inventory records.
• Issue stock to internal teams and keep stores areas clean, organised and safe.
• Pick, pack and prepare orders for dispatch, verify documentation and maintain shipping records.
• Liaise with courier and logistics providers and load vehicles safely.
• Operate warehouse equipment safely and follow health‑and‑safety procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with wider operational activities.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a stores, warehouse, logistics or inventory role.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic IT competence.
• Reliable, proactive and committed to high standards of organisation.

Required skills

• Forklift truck licence (desirable).
• Experience using stock control or inventory systems.
• Familiarity with ERP or Warehouse Management Systems.
