Structural Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Structural Design Engineer to join our client’s aerospace team in Broughton, UK. The role focuses on aircraft wing design, in‑service repairs, and structural modifications for the A400M platform, ensuring full compliance with airworthiness standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support wing structure design and A400M in‑service repair activities.
• Manage design modifications through Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR) and engineering review gates.
• Develop and review 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Provide expertise on structural design, material selection, stress sizing, manufacturing processes, and certification.
• Collaborate with offshore and cross‑functional teams including Stress, Manufacturing, Quality, and Configuration Management.
• Ensure adherence to DOA, DMU, PLM, and configuration control procedures.
• Support design reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in aerospace structural design, both metallic and composite.
• Strong understanding of airworthiness requirements and aerospace design processes (RSDP, SIDP, AP, ABD, AIPI, AIPS).
• Experience with DMU reviews, interface management, and multi‑partner engineering environments.
• Previous role as an Aeroplane Design Signatory (Checker/Approver) is essential.
