Student Mentor – Wellbeing, Careers & Coaching

About the role

We are looking for a passionate Student Mentor to join a specialist SEN school in Croydon. The role focuses on supporting the wellbeing, personal development and future pathways of students aged 11‑18, many of whom have SEMH, ASD or additional needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one mentoring and coaching to enhance emotional wellbeing and personal growth.
• Guide students in career awareness, aspirations and next steps.
• Deliver engaging life‑skills, employability and enrichment sessions.
• Build trusting relationships to foster engagement, resilience and independence.
• Support behaviour using trauma‑informed and de‑escalation strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and external agencies.
• Monitor and record progress, wellbeing and behaviour in line with safeguarding procedures.

Required profile

• Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
• Experience in mentoring, youth work, coaching or pastoral roles.
• Confidence working with students who have SEMH, ASD or behavioural challenges.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Calm, resilient and able to manage challenging situations.
• Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

Required skills

• Understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation.
• Experience delivering one‑to‑one or small‑group support.
• Awareness of safeguarding practices.
