Supplier Quality Engineer – South Shields

About the role

We are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our South Shields team, supporting a global supply chain for an established engineering manufacturer. In this role you will act as the primary liaison between our business and its suppliers, ensuring that all components and materials meet the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute supplier audits and performance assessments.
• Approve quality documentation such as PPAPs, FMEAs and Control Plans.
• Investigate and resolve supplier quality issues using CAPA and 8D methodologies.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives applying Lean and Six Sigma principles.
• Monitor supplier performance metrics and identify opportunities to reduce defects.
• Support incoming inspection activities and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with UK operations and an international manufacturing facility to promote best practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in supplier quality within manufacturing or engineering environments.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and core quality tools.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills with the confidence to influence suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Relevant engineering or quality qualification; Six Sigma Green Belt is desirable.
• Experience in bearings, heavy engineering or project‑based manufacturing is advantageous.
