Support Services Assistant – Hotel Services

About the role

Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Support Services Assistant delivering essential hotel‑services across our healthcare facilities. You will help keep environments clean, safe and welcoming for patients, visitors and staff while supporting catering, laundry and porter functions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cleaning duties to maintain high standards of hygiene in clinical and non‑clinical areas.
• Assist catering operations, including meal preparation, distribution, dishwashing and monitoring food temperatures.
• Manage patient personal clothing services – sorting, washing and preparing garments for return.
• Carry out porter and messenger tasks such as transporting patients, mail, equipment and essential supplies.
• Safely operate cleaning, catering, laundry and portering equipment following established procedures.
• Report faults, complete departmental records and follow work schedules as instructed.
• Adhere to health‑and‑safety policies, infection‑control procedures and quality standards while providing excellent customer service.

Required profile

• Positive attitude with a commitment to delivering high‑quality support services in a healthcare setting.
• Willingness to undertake training in cleaning, catering, laundry and portering duties.
• Basic knowledge of health and safety practices or ability to learn them quickly.
• Understanding of infection prevention and control procedures or readiness to complete training.
• Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with patients, visitors and staff.
