Support Staff – Alternative Provision (SEMH)

About the role
We are seeking compassionate Support Staff to join a specialist Alternative Provision serving primary and secondary pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in the M28 area. This temporary-to‑long‑term position starts in September 2026 and offers the chance to make a positive impact on young people who require additional support.
Key responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour both on‑site and during off‑site activities.
- Build trusting relationships and encourage positive behaviour using consistent management strategies.
- Assist teaching staff in delivering personalised learning and intervention programmes.
- Safely transport pupils to school, appointments and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with other professionals to ensure each pupil receives appropriate support.
Required profile
- Experience working with primary and/or secondary pupils with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
- Transferable skills from youth work, mentoring, residential care, sports coaching or similar roles.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to obtain business‑use motor insurance.
- Patient, resilient, flexible and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
Required skills

- Daily rate of £110‑£120, dependent on experience.
