Support Worker / Care Assistant (Male) – Full‑time

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate male Support Worker / Care Assistant to join a supported accommodation team in Colchester. The role involves providing person‑centred support to adults with complex needs, helping them maintain tenancies, develop life skills and move towards greater independence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver care and supervision in line with individual support plans and risk assessments.
• Assist residents with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, laundry and personal care where required.
• Promote independence by encouraging routine building, confidence and practical life‑skill development.
• Carry out wellbeing and welfare checks, monitor mental health, neurodiversity, substance misuse recovery and homelessness issues, and raise concerns appropriately.
• Provide medication prompting and supervision according to support plans.
• Maintain professional boundaries, enforce house rules and de‑escalate challenging situations safely.

Required profile

• Male applicant (occupational requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010).
• Experience in care or support roles such as Care Worker, Residential Support Worker, Community Support Worker, Housing Support Worker, Supported Living, Homelessness or Mental Health support.
• Ability to work 37 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, with rotating shifts between 09:30 and 22:30 and occasional 12‑hour shifts.
• Commitment to delivering dignified, respectful and person‑centred care.

Required skills

• Medication prompting and supervision.
• De‑escalation and safety management.
• Understanding of mental health, neurodiversity, substance misuse recovery and homelessness challenges.
