Support Worker – Supported Living for Autism & Learning Disabilities

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Support Worker to provide person‑centred care in a supported living setting for adults with autism and learning disabilities. The role focuses on promoting independence, wellbeing and inclusion in daily routines.

Key responsibilities

• Assist residents with personal care, meal preparation, nutrition support and medication prompting in line with policy.
• Maintain clean and safe living spaces and support housekeeping tasks.
• Encourage positive routines and meaningful activities that enhance communication and engagement.
• Implement individual support plans and behavioural strategies, using breakaway and de‑escalation techniques when required.
• Record accurate support notes, incident reports and daily logs.
• Collaborate with the wider team, families, advocates and health professionals.
• Participate in training and supervision to develop skills in autism, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour support.

Required profile

• Experience working with adults who have autism or learning disabilities (preferred).
• Understanding of person‑centred support and positive behavioural approaches.
• Ability to work shifts, maintain professional standards under pressure and act quickly in emergencies.

Required skills

• Confidence using breakaway techniques and de‑escalation strategies (training provided if needed).
• Strong communication skills and ability to build trust and rapport.
