SURF Material, Welding & NDT Specialist Engineer

About the role

TotalEnergies is looking for a SURF Material, Welding and NDT Specialist Engineer for its Venus project, an ultra-deepwater oil project in Namibian waters. The role covers the design activities and approval of material selection, corrosion, welding and NDE/NDT activities for the SURF package, including steel lazy wave risers, rigid flowlines and spools, and rigid jumpers, for a very deep-water greenfield project. It is based in London at the contractor's premises, starting in December 2026 (subject to FID) for a minimum of 1 year, renewable.

Key responsibilities

• Approve and manage studies, drawings, specifications and procedures from the SURF contractor and suppliers, and support the umbilical and flexible specialists.
• Ensure compliance with H3SE&Q rules, safety instructions and the company Code of Conduct and Anti-Corruption Program.
• Define, develop and maintain technical documentation for material selection, corrosion, welding and NDE/NDT, and support project management documents.
• Review detailed engineering documentation (WPS, WPQR, queries, derogations) and raise comments on unsafe designs, constructability issues and deviations.
• Follow up testing and qualification activities (PQT, PPT, FAT, EFAT, SIT) and fabrication and installation works, and act as technical referent to contractors.
• Witness welding operations, review NDE techniques and operatives, assess welding environments and materials, and review special processes such as heat treatment and pickling.
• Support tendering, clarification and evaluation, and coordinate with other package teams and the Technical Manager.
• Gather lessons learned and help prepare the close-out report.

Required profile

• Master's degree in engineering, with specialization in Material Sciences, ESSA or IWE qualification.
• At least 10 years of experience in large offshore oil and gas SURF deepwater projects.
• Previous experience with major SURF contractors on deepwater projects and in a complex, multicultural environment.
• BOSIET and CA EBS.
• English.

Required skills

• NDT methods: AUT, phased array, TOFD, IWEX.
• Knowledge of DNV codes, preferably TotalEnergies general specifications and procedures.
