Surfacing Operative – Road Construction Crew

About the role

Breedon Group plc is seeking reliable Surfacing Operatives to join its road construction team in Elgin. The role involves hands‑on work laying and finishing asphalt on highway projects, with shift flexibility including night work.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the laying, raking, levelling, and finishing of asphalt materials.
• Support the operation of surfacing plant, tools, and equipment.
• Carry out site preparation and general labouring duties before, during, and after surfacing works.
• Work closely with the Foreperson and wider surfacing squad to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of plant, equipment, and PPE.
• Follow site instructions, safe systems of work, and company procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near‑misses promptly.
• Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required.

Required profile

• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
• Commitment to working safely and following procedures.
• Flexible approach to working hours and site locations.
• Desirable: CSCS card.
• Desirable: Full UK driving licence.
• Desirable: Previous experience in surfacing, construction, highways, or a similar environment.
