Survey Engineer – Railway Infrastructure (12‑month contract)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Survey Engineer to provide specialist railway surveying expertise across a range of rail infrastructure projects. Working as an independent consultant on a 12‑month contract, you will plan, deliver and assure survey activities that support design, maintenance and enhancement of the railway network.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver topographical and rail infrastructure surveys.
• Establish, validate and maintain survey control networks, including GNSS control and SnakeGrid transformations.
• Extract, process and validate point‑cloud data and produce accurate survey deliverables.
• Provide technical survey expertise to multidisciplinary project teams and review survey specifications.
• Carry out quality assurance, verification and governance of survey information.
• Coordinate with third‑party survey providers and resolve technical issues.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in survey methodology and technology.

Required profile

• Significant railway surveying experience, including leading track and rail infrastructure surveys.
• Strong understanding of modern topographical survey techniques.
• Proven ability to establish and manage GNSS control networks and use SnakeGrid.
• Experience processing and interpreting point‑cloud datasets.
• Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification and familiarity with rail standards.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
